Ride an elephant, hold a 40kg python, walk a suspension bridge across a rainforest canopy, chill out with Malaysian locals, bob marely and bongos outside a 7/11... yes please!
Wait. Hold that thought...rewind.... let me talk about what happened before Malaysia first. Chronological order? okay, fine..
mmm... birthday celebrations. check! First birthday in another country. Stellar.
Then... MUDFEST!!!! playing in the mud has always been one of my favorite things to do, so what could be better than an entire festival of MUD complete with jumpy castles and blow up slides!? Awesome. All day in the mud wrestling pits, mud slides, mud showers... glory. Then chillin at night by the ocean, and the next day lazing on the beach. Perfect.
Okay, now Malaysia...
We never made it to a beach, which is really all I wanted to do before getting to the country, I thought the beaches would be much closer to the capital city... really, I didn't have a clue what to expect or what we were doing, I kind of just followed Brit and Stef who planned the trip out. So I found myself in a big city and then a jungle rather than in a bikini on the beach like I had imagined, but it was good times anyway.
The first three nights/ two days we chilled in Kuala Lumpur. All of Malaysia has a really sweet Rasta/ Reggae kind of feel. Really friendly, a lot of Bob Marely, everyone just looking to have a good time. One of the best nights was our first- chilling outside a convenience store with a bunch of locals- beers, guitar, bongos, great music, really good times. During the days we explored the markets, downtown, and went to the Batu caves- Cathedral height caves with a giant gold buddha welcoming you in, a temple inside and monkey's all over the steps leading up to them. Got to hold a 40kg python there. Class.
After we said goodbye to our friends in K.L. we headed to the jungle. Stopped along the way and fed deer, hugged a bear, held some more snakes, and rode elephants. Then made it to Teman Negara- absolutely beautiful. Did a night trek, a day walk, a canopy walk- a half hour walk along a suspension bridge at the tops of the trees, rode a boat down the river, and saw a tiny village that still lives off the jungle with their poison dart guns. Not bad at all. Though, I was hoping to see some cool animals- elephants, tigers, panthers, come-on! just a snake would do.. or maybe a firefly?? Nothing. There weren't even monkeys in the jungle. Lame.
Oh, and did I mention I flew buisness class? Ballin'! haha.. don't know how that happened. Wine and two big seats to myself, plenty of leg room... never slept so well on a flight.
Then back to Korea and my tiny, ill-equipped temporary apartment with all my stuff in boxes and suitcases, but really all over the floor, then next morning a new job- new kids, new books, new coworkers. Wish I was still travelling. But the job seems good, kids are well behaved, school's well run, coworkers are nice...should be alright.
Pictures soon! (hopefully)
