Tonight was creepy

Tonight was creepy. Perfectly still with hardly a sound. Dark with the red sun trying to peek through the gray but unable to. And a strong smell of smoke. Eerie. I have expected a huge, warty hand to peel back the clouds; and a terrifying creature, as big as an apartment building, with red eyes and fangs to step through and crush everyone in it's path with it's massive, gnarly feet.
Or maybe a just a storm would be enough to make my not so exciting life a little more memorable. The one last week was pitiful. I even dared God to show the world what he can do... but he obviously didn't listen to me. It's probably a good thing he didn't because God can do a lot more that I really wanted to see at that moment, and I didn't have my camera ready. Oh well, I'm sure to have more than enough excitement in Africa.

Jason Bourne is my Hero

Just a note: the Bourne Ultimatum was AWESOME. Even though the many camera angles make you dizzy and Bourne is unrealistically invicible, I love those movies. Fantastic.

lazing on a wednesday afternoon

I must say, the days seem to take a lot longer when you are alone. I hope I never have to live by myself. I'm sitting here in my living room, listening to music, and, obviously, updating my blog. My family is camping. I'm sure there are many productive things I could do right now, but I'm feeling lazy, so I'm just going to sit here for now. And I can't listen to any of the new music I downloaded (ya I did) if I'm outside watering trees. Good music: the Weakerthans, Until June, Jason Mraz, some of the Shins, Straylight Run, and, I sheepishly admit, Mika. I'm realizing that there are a lot of CD's I want to buy, but I don't have any money. So if anyone wants to give me a going away to Africa present...

Africa is coming up really soon, and I don't think I'm ready yet. I will be prepared stuff and money wise, but mentally... I'm not so sure. I just feel like this summer hasn't been very productive in terms of hanging out with certain people, reading certain books, and growing closer to God. I feel like there's a lot more I should do before I leave to make this summer worth while. And yet I sit here on my computer. I'm a genius.

It's a little cooler today, surprisingly. There's a nice breeze and it's a littly cloudy. Maybe it will rain... haha. ya, right. It hasn't really rained for a few months now. Well, it poured a couple of days ago on the south side of lethbridge and in coaldale, but we saw nothing here. They're actually closing campgrounds because of fire risks.

Here's some videos for y'all: Songs that I like, that I am ashamed that I like, but that I'm sharing with you anyway.

K, I couldn't find the real video for this one, but this one is amusing so...

...my mom made me delete this video, so as you can see, it is no longer here...

Land Down Under by Men at Work

The Harry Potter Version of Seaside Rendezvous by Queen. The video doesn't fit the music at all, but Freddy Mercury probably died of AIDS before music videos came out. Very unfortunate, I'm sure he could have made a mean video.

A Day At Work

Gong-show. I don't know what exactly the word means, but I'm sure it perfectly describes the day at work today.
It went like this: I was scheduled for 11 AM. At 8:00 AM the phone rang and woke me up; I checked the call display and my worst fears and suspicions were confirmed: it was my work. So I rolled over and went back to sleep. Yes, of course Sandi, as I'll call here here, didn't show up again. She never does for her 7:00 AM week-end shifts, and yet they put her on then every week-end without fail. Thus, it is their own stupid fault and I decided to sleep. I guess the extra $50 in tips would have been nice, but when you are rudely awakened from a good dream, sleeping seems much more profitable.

So I came in to work at 11, and three girls were frantically trying to handle a full and overflowing restaurant. Murphy's law: it's always more busy when you are short staffed. Everyone, of course was stressed out and angry and one on the verge of tears (though this one is often on the verge of tears, so that doesn't mean much). I got thrown into the mess and tried to find myself and be cheerful about it, which I did, quite successfully, I must say.

The afternoon wore on and customers kept coming. The girls, and some of the guys in the back, for some reason, had to stay longer than had been planned, so there was some more angry people.

When 2:00 rolled around, the 2:00 girl still hadn't shown and so more tempers flared. She came 10 minutes late, and it turns out she was there the whole time, she just decided to have a smoke break before she started. Brillant.

Well, this said 2:00 girl was also pissed off for some reason. She grumbled and swore at a few people, then muttered something about punching someone in the face and stormed out of the door.

Wonderful.

Next came in scary butch-girl who just started in the back. She had some sort of injury and said that she had just gotten out of surgury an hour before she came to work. When my boss told her to tie back her long scraggly hair, because no one wants to find one of those in their food, she flipped and said that if she got any more bitching she would leave. She didn't get any more bitching, but she left anyway.

Number 3.

I must say, these things made me smile, and for some reason, I was in a great mood today. I'm sure some people wanted to kick me in the teeth.

Though my job is a gongshow, there are always the people there who can make me smile, and thus, I like my job.
