Port Dalhousie

Seemingly endless gently rolling waters. Sparkling blue dancing up the white sandy beach. Waves crashing against cruel rocks, sending up shimmering jewels, droplets shining in the noon-day sun... It would make a beautiful postcard. Only Ontario has got it wrong. The water is the wrong color- more of a greenish brown. The beach is sandy, but the water's dance seems almost sick. It's lost it's happy sparkle and seems to be crawling forelornely, sadly up and down the empty sand. The waves don't send up shimmering jewels but a thick dark-green sludge with every crash. Instead of inviting you to breathe in their refreshing spray, the waves taunt you, daring you walk near the rocks and brave the putrid mush. It smells not of fresh waters and crisp fall air, but shaply of rotting and sea weed. This typical southern Ontario port begs the question: what have we done?

an update

Making a new post is a great way to procrastinate... who likes homework anyway? So ya, I guess this has to be a huge update, it's been a while. University has been going great. I had a nice welcoming committee at the airport 2 weeks ago (wow, it seems like much longer than that), which began many days of fun. It's really great to see everyone again (except Heather- I miss you!!!), and the girls in my dorm are all awesome, I think we'll have a really fun year. We had the decade dance on the first saturday and had a lot of fun dressing up like hippies and yes, dancing. We've watched a little bit of soccer, watched Tim hurt himself time and time again. Don't worry guys his foot is not broken. We had coffee house last thursday- Tim sang "passenger seat" by Death Cab for Cutie (we're going to their concert on October 30th!!!), of course he did an awesome job, and some of the guys made a really funny video- "the top ten differences between first and second year". There was another dance this saturday, organized by some of the guys in Tim's dorm- "la Dormitoires"- the "16th annual fall ball", which was a ton of fun. Ummmm... random trips to restaurants and Tim hortons at midnight, camping out in front of the school all night for the used book sale, late night front-porch conversations, boring classes, reeeeaaallllly long labs, readings, readings, readings, talking on MSN (or updating my blog) or just staring at the wall instead of doing readings, catching up with people I didn't see all summer, meeting new people... I'm having a lot of fun out here, and of course learning a lot, and of course I miss all of you back home! God Bless!

And the Stress Begins...

This is my first post in a while, and I have to say, it will be my last for a while. The Lazy days of summer, when I had nothing better to do but update my blog, are now over, and the days of classes, papers, and assigned (but never read) readings, are now beginning. I'm done work and off to the roaring metropolis of Ancaster tomorrow. Just so you won't be disappointed with my sparse posts, I'll tell you now what I'll be up to. Tomorrow morning at about 4:00 AM I will leave to drive to calgary with my parents (I'm getting a little stressed out- it is now 8:30 and I haven't packed anything yet; and I lost my camera). After tearful (or cheerful) goodbyes, I will fly out to Hamilton. After that I will be going to classes, catching up with friends I haven't seen for 4 months (or a week), debating doing my assigned readings but then hanging out instead, probably playing cards, and watching movies, and hopefully if its nice, suntanning. It will be life as usual on the Redeemer campus, only a different dorm, different dorm mates, and no Heather. I wish you all God's Blessing as you embark on new adventures this semester or continue doing what you've done all year.
